Overview
This Student Conduct Assistant will form a key part of the Accommodation & Commercial Services Student Conduct Team within Residence Life. The Assistant will support colleagues to implement the Regulations Relating to the Discipline of students in a fair and timely manner. This will include administrative support such as updating student records, collating case notes on a database, and note taking during investigatory meetings. The Student Conduct Assistant will also lead on non‑regulatory informal concern meetings, working with the wider Residence Life team to respond to anti‑social or concerning behaviour. This will include collating evidence, taking statements, and organising and facilitating face‑to‑face meetings with student residents and discussing conduct concerns and expectations. The Student Conduct Assistant role will also support the wider Residence Life team to meet its strategic objectives and enhance the student experience in University residences. This will include administrative support to the wider team such as responding to shared email accounts, covering our ‘on duty’ rota responding to student concerns, and helping to coordinate the recruitment and management of a large team of student workers. The Assistant will also be expected to book event and meeting spaces on a shared system with colleagues across ACS.
Working hours: 10am to 6pm Monday to Friday. There will be some weekend commitments such as occasional Open Days and Arrivals Weekend.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- Update and maintain departmental information on electronic records and database (StarRez).
- Be responsible for overseeing the Informal Concerns processes to include organising meetings and co‑ordinating staffing and associated arrangements to ensure activities/events are administered efficiently.
- Carry out collation and analysis of information and data to assist with management decision making and ensure accurate and timely regular reports.
- Be a point of contact for student queries, providing detailed information about conduct processes and room booking processes.
- Liaise with key contacts in the wider University and SU to support own work activities as required including student room bookings in residences as part of the Give It a Go programme.
- Undertake short‑term project management relating to student conduct initiatives and contribute to larger Department and University wide projects.
- Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential criteria:
- Educated to A-level or equivalent (or equivalent experience).
- Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
- Good understanding of and experience in using StarRez or similar database systems used for accurate record keeping.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Proven ability to provide excellent customer service and experience.
- Experience of, and willingness to, work independently on own initiative to solve problems and make decisions, as well as working collaboratively as part of a team.
- Excellent organisation and time management skills.
- Able to handle sensitive information with integrity and in accordance with the Data Protection Act and other legal requirements.
- A flexible and professional approach to work with a willingness to embrace change and undergo relevant training as required.
Desirable criteria:
- Previous administrative and clerical experience.
- Knowledge and experience of the University academic, residential and administrative environment.
