IT Services at the University of Sheffield provide a full range of complex IT and technology-enabled services that support education, research, workplace, corporate services and infrastructure enablers to all our staff and students. This large and highly innovative department is undergoing a significant amount of change as it establishes itself as a key enterprise IT partner that works across the University, with stakeholders and key partners to deliver enterprise-wide products and services in line with strategic aims.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Work with Product Teams, Developers and other colleagues to support, design, develop, test and enhance our SITS application.
  • Liaise with third party providers, escalating incidents for investigation / resolution as required.
  • Support the assessment and implementation of system patches and upgrades, working with University stakeholders and third party providers.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance as and when required to team members, stakeholders and colleagues in other departments.
  • Prioritise user requirements in collaboration with business stakeholders and Product Managers.
  • Ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences, translating complex concepts into understandable, relevant, appropriate messages both verbally and in writing.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the sector via conferences, forums, webinars and mail lists, sharing information with other team members.
  • As a member of staff, you will be encouraged to make ethical decisions in your role, embedding the University sustainability strategy into your working activities wherever possible.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Criteria

  • Have a good honours degree in a related subject area, equivalent qualifications/ demonstrable experience.
  • Excellent practical knowledge of the Tribal SITS Product Suite, including SITS eVision, StuTalk, SRLs, tasking and Javascript.
  • Experience of modern software development methodologies including Git, JIRA and CI/CD using Jenkins or GitHub.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and persuade and the ability to build internal and external networks.
  • Ability to work with people within a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds across formal team boundaries.
  • Ability to perform advanced and complex changes to support incident resolution and system enhancements.
  • Manage own time when working on several projects simultaneously, with an ability to prioritise and complete urgent fixes as they occur.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, techniques and best practice quickly and effectively.
  • Understanding of security considerations in system design and maintenance.
  • Familiarity with support tools like TopDesk.

  • Grade: 8
  • Salary: £48,822 - £58,225 per annum with the potential to progress to £65,509 through sustained exceptional contribution
