The Impact Officer will oversee the impact strategy and related activities of the EPSRC-funded BRIDGES for Dementia Network+ (BRIDGES N+). The network is directed by Dr. Jennifer MacRitchie of the University of Sheffield and partners with universities, local authorities and dementia charities to enable people with dementia to remain independent at home for longer. BRIDGES N+ will fund approximately 10 small projects across four innovation themes:

  • Indoor and outdoor spaces – adapting homes, neighbourhoods and public places for cognitive accessibility
  • Arts, sports and culture – using creative, multi‑sensory experiences to boost emotional, social and physical wellbeing
  • In‑person and online communication – developing intuitive ways to stay connected
  • Digital technology development and translation – ensuring new tools reach real‑world settings quickly

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Lead the creation, implementation and oversight of the impact plan aligned with BRIDGES N+ vision, identify key stakeholders, and develop metrics to monitor impact.
  • Collect, organise, evaluate and maintain primary and secondary evidence of research impact.
  • Monitor, evaluate and analyse the effectiveness of BRIDGES N+ activities using analytic tools and other evaluation methods, producing reports and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Actively participate in BRIDGES N+ meetings, including Management Team meetings, and brief members on impact activities.
  • Ensure BRIDGES N+ activities effectively engage stakeholders.
  • Embed the University sustainability and ethical decision‑making strategy into the role wherever possible.
  • Perform related duties as commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Honours degree or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to design, implement and oversee impact strategies for complex research or multi‑partner programmes, including defining aligned outcomes.
  • Experience developing indicators, evaluation frameworks and analytic approaches to assess effectiveness of activities, including quantitative and qualitative methods and impact reporting for funders or stakeholders.
  • Proven capability to collect, organise and synthesise evidence of research or innovation impact, translating it into compelling case studies or narratives (e.g., REF‑style or policy/practice impact).
  • Ability to translate research and innovation outcomes into accessible formats for multiple stakeholders, e.g., policy, funders and the general public.
  • Excellent organisational ability and proactive approach to work.
  • Track record of working with diverse stakeholders such as local authorities, charities and industry partners.
  • Track record of working with people who have lived experience of dementia to co‑produce impact activities and ensure relevance.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of key issues affecting people living with dementia and independence at home.
  • Familiarity with university structures and systems for research.

Salary, Duration and Work Arrangement

  • Salary: £38,784 – £41,064 pro rata for 1 day per week.
  • Duration: Immediate start until 29 September 2028.
  • Work arrangement: Part‑time, 1 day per week.
  • Grade: 7.
  • Line manager: BRIDGES for Dementia Network+ Director.
