Overview

We are looking to appoint a Clinical Educator who will contribute to the delivery of high-quality teaching of theory and practice to the Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (tACPs) (Apprentice and non apprentice) training programme across our partnerships of regional health care employers. This Clinical Educator post works with tACPs within their clinical placement settings and on study days and also works very closely with employer partners to ensure that all apprentices make their planned progress through the programme. Clinical Educators complete Tripartite reviews and maintain progress tracking systems to support the management of the programme and assure the quality of the provision to our regulators.

The post holder will work with the programme leader, pathway leaders and learners and will attend meetings across the partnership locations. They will be expected to contribute towards development, delivery and monitoring of the programme. This will include supporting tACP students and their supervisors in their clinical areas to achieve a high level of clinical care through the practice and attainment of clinical competence, and through the application of theory into practice.

Main Duties And Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the processes for assessing the clinical skills/competence of trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioners in conjunction with Employing Organisations and clinical supervisor(s).
  • Undertake up to 12 weekly tripartite reviews with trainee ACP apprentices to ensure apprenticeship compliance in accordance with DfE Funding rules for apprenticeships.
  • Ensure the Promotion of evidence-based practice.
  • Act as a role model and resource for advice, support and guidance, signing posting apprentices and students where required to the appropriate Student support services.
  • Work with partners to ensure the clinical governance processes encompass measures to support the education of staff in training.
  • Develop effective networks with other clinical educators and mentors , for sharing information expertise, and good practice, both within and outside the employer partnership.
  • Undertake professional development opportunities to maintain professional registration.
  • Ensure and promote the maintenance of a safe, clean, and secure working environment for trainee ACP apprentices.
  • Supervise and maintain accurate records using employer partner organisations’ documentation and electronic staff records (ESR) where required.
  • Raise and escalate concerns regarding any issues with the trainee Advanced practitioner,clinical areas or supervision to both the university and where necessary to the Faculty of Advanced practice.
  • Maintain accurate records relating to engagement with trainees.
  • Promote an effective learning environment within the partnership.
  • Support staff to deliver evidence based practice and research activities to further enhance patient care.
  • Collaborate as appropriate with Partnership Learning and Professional Development
  • departments in the provision of training and education.
  • Support and guide clinical supervisors in the workplace ensuring continuity in assessment and addressing inconsistencies.
  • Provide effective leadership with regard to the development of the trainee advanced clinical practitioner.
  • Motivate staff in the support of the trainee advanced clinical practitioner.
  • Participate as a member of the trainee advanced clinical practitioner implementation group providing reports as requested.
  • Carry out other duties, commensurate with the grade and remit of the post.

Essential criteria

  • Hold a Masters degree in Advanced Clinical Practice (assessed at application).
  • Hold current registration with either the NMC or HCPC including prescribing rights/Non Medical Prescriber/V300 (assessed at application).
  • Proven teaching ability, ideally with a teaching/mentorship qualification (assessed at application/interview).
  • Experience of providing mentorship /practice based supervision / assessment to students in practice (assessed at application/interview).
  • Have knowledge of and can demonstrate a good understanding of the ACP apprenticeship standards including the Knowledge Skills and Behaviours for the ACP Apprenticeship standard, as well as having working knowledge of the 4 pillars of advanced practice (assessed at application/interview).
  • Proven ability to assess and organise resources, plan and progress case work in a timely manner and adhere to strict 12 weekly deadlines for when carrying out apprenticeship tripartite reviews (assessed at application/interview).
  • Ability to manage difficult situations and ability to know when to escalate concerns (assessed at application/interview).
  • Hold excellent interpersonal and influencing skills with ability to communicate and work effectively with apprentices, academics and clinicians both verbally and written (assessed at application/interview).
  • Proven ability to work as part of a team as well as being able to work autonomously and using your own initiative (assessed at application/interview).
  • Hold a full driving licence and be willing to travel across the region and more widely in order to visit apprentices in practice (when required) (assessed at application).

Desirable

  • Knowledge of current issues affecting education in the UK, healthcare and advanced practice (assessed at application/interview).
