The Infrastructure Engineer will be responsible for the end‑to‑end management of business‑critical Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring they are highly available, performant and secure. Working closely with the wider infrastructure team and application owners, you will drive incident resolution, disaster‑recovery planning and continuous improvement of our core infrastructure components. The role also involves technical leadership on upgrades, vendor management and the creation of robust documentation and knowledge‑transfer processes.

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in the functioning of our day‑to‑day University processes, enabling us to provide benefits to our students and the community. You'll be working with a supportive team of infrastructure engineers to drive continuous improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the infrastructure team, take a lead technical role in the resolution and recovery from major incidents, including Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity situations.
  • Monitor the lifecycle of core infrastructure components and inform and advise of suitable replacements/upgrades with sufficient notice to enable effective budget management
  • Act as technical lead on assigned installations, upgrades, and changes to core infrastructure components. Documenting appropriate information and ensuring knowledge is transferred across the relevant staff.
  • Act as an SME for Business and Technical projects and take ownership of all associated tasks
  • Provide technical advice and guidance to ensure decisions are fully informed.
  • Monitor, investigate and improve the efficiency of our infrastructure components.
