We are looking for a friendly, engaging, enthusiastic person to join the School of Medicine Core Technical Services Community. This role will be based within the School's University Park Technical Team, a highly skilled and dynamic group supporting multiple buildings performing multi-disciplinary teaching and research.
Responsibilities
- Provide senior technical support to the School of Medicine, plan and oversee the day-to-day running of research and teaching laboratories, allocating resources and providing technical supervision and training in the use of equipment and techniques to relevant staff and students to ensure objectives are met.
- Use knowledge, experience, and skills to provide excellent teaching and training in molecular disciplines (e.g. nucleic acid extraction, gene expression, protein quantification).
- Be responsible for the upkeep of research and teaching facilities as well as the use and maintenance of equipment.
- Provide support for regulatory requirements of working within a suite of laboratories (COSHH, chemical audits and safety monitoring).
- Work as part of a technical team, flexibly delivering an efficient and effective technical service.
- Work with independence and initiative to complete processes, organising your own and others' work to meet clear objectives.
- Typically have responsibility for an area of work, handle tasks/issues/requests, delegate to junior colleagues, and refer complex situations to your manager.
- React to changing priorities and work circumstances with scope to make decisions within clear parameters.
Contract and location
This is a fixed term, full-time (36.25 hours per week) post to 28 February 2028. Requests for secondment from internal candidates will be considered on the basis that prior agreement has been sought from both your current line manager and the manager of your substantive post, if you are already undertaking a secondment role.
Location and flexibility
This position is based at University Park. However, you will be expected to work flexibly to support the technical services across the School's geographical sites.
