Join the University of Northampton as Course Lead for our BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy Degree Apprenticeship programme, offered on a 0.8 FTE (four days per week) basis. In this senior‑level role you will provide academic leadership for the apprenticeship route, working closely with BSc and MSc Physiotherapy Course Leads to deliver a high‑quality, coherent portfolio that meets the needs of students, employers and the wider healthcare workforce.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development, delivery and continual improvement of the apprenticeship programme, ensuring it meets professional, regulatory and apprenticeship standards.
- Provide clear direction and support to the physiotherapy academic team, fostering an inclusive, well‑organised learning environment.
- Drive performance across key indicators, engage with quality‑assurance processes and collaborate with internal and external partners, particularly employers.
- Ensure an excellent student experience aligned with university and Ofsted requirements, and contribute to teaching across all physiotherapy routes.
- Act as a liaison with the Head and Deputy Head of School to develop actionable improvement plans based on course‑ and module‑level data.
- Support and mentor staff, promote a positive culture and maintain a focus on continuous improvement and student outcomes.
- Advocate for inclusive practices, zero toleration of discrimination and support mental‑health and disability needs of staff and students.
- Maintain necessary background disclosure checks (Disclosure and Barring Service) before appointment.
Qualifications
- Qualified Physiotherapist, registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Degree or equivalent in physiotherapy or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in higher education, or clear readiness to operate at the senior lecturer level, including evidence of high‑quality teaching, learning and assessment.
- Evidence of successful delivery of positive learning environments, e.g., student outcomes, feedback, or recognition such as an Advance HE Fellowship or willingness to pursue.
- Strong leadership capability with experience supporting and developing a team of academic staff.
- Excellent communication and data‑analytic skills for evaluating performance and driving quality enhancement.
Desirable
- Master’s degree in physiotherapy or a related subject.
- Doctorate in physiotherapy or a relevant discipline, completed or within 12 months of completion.
- Professional recognition as an HEA Fellow (D2) or willingness to achieve.
