About the Role: We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Estates Surveyor to join our Estate & Space Management team at The University of Manchester.

In this senior role, you will provide expert property advice across the University’s property portfolio, which is one of the largest and most diverse University estates in the UK. You will work as part of a professional Estates surveying team, managing the University’s freehold and leasehold interests to support the University’s strategic aims. From lease negotiations, property acquisitions & disposals, to overseeing consultants and driving Estates strategy, this is a role that combines operational leadership with high level strategic impact. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the Estates Surveying Team, including professional, technical, and administrative staff.
  • Lead on landlord and tenant matters, including lease acquisitions, lettings, rent reviews, renewals, terminations, and dispute resolution.
  • Commission and manage the procurement of property valuations and appraisals.
  • Make recommendations and manage the acquisition and disposal of property on behalf of the University.
  • Ensure efficient management of property records including deeds, leases, rating assessments and service charges.
  • Develop and deliver strategic and operational Estate plans in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Manage the financial performance of property interests, maximising income and controlling expenditure.
  • Act as a key advisor to senior University colleagues on strategic Estate and Property matters.
  • Lead the use of Property data systems, ensuring accurate, reliable records and analysis.
  • Contribute to the management of budgets, reporting variances, and supporting forecasting.
  • Deputise for the Associate Director of Estate & Space Management when required.

What We’re Looking For

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A degree and/or full membership of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
  • Significant experience in Estate Management in a large, complex organisation.
  • Extensive experience of dealing with landlord and tenant matters, property transactions, and management of consultants.
  • Strong IT skills, with experience of Microsoft Office, CAD, Property Management IT systems, and Finance systems.
  • Evidence of commitment to continuing professional development.
