Overview
The successful candidate will work as part of a research team to assist on a project that aims to unravel novel mechanisms that control memory T cell function. Based on exciting recent results (www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/2023.03.02.527395v2) we will characterise the biology of a subset of CD4+ memory T cells that activate the cytokine TGF-β and have suppressive properties.
The project aims to characterise the functional role of these cells in infection and cancer using murine models and human patient samples. The results will provide a step-change in our understanding of how memory T cell responses are controlled and reveal candidate mechanisms that could be targeted to promote more effective responses to infection and cancer.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to characterising the biology of CD4+ memory T cells that activate TGF-β and possess suppressive properties.
- Work on understanding the functional role of these cells in infection and cancer using murine models and human patient samples.
- Collaborate with the research team to interpret results and assist with experimental design.
Essential requirements / Qualifications
- Holding a BSc in Immunology or a related Biological Science
- Extensive up-to-date practical skills in immunology-focused laboratory research, particularly in the study of the cytokine TGF-beta
- Excellent technical skills in murine models used to study the immune system
- Extensive experience in flow cytometry
