We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Technical Operations Manager (Recruitment, On‑Boarding and Staff Development). This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of an agile technical support structure for research laboratories in the Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health, within a dynamic and inclusive environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Faculty’s Head of Technical Operations to develop sustainable research infrastructure and facilities that are suitably adaptable and agile to meet the Faculty’s needs, responding to both internal and external challenges.
  • Contribute to the monitoring of School and Faculty’s strategy, policies and procedures, ensuring that these are consistent across the Faculty wherever possible.

Essential Criteria

  • Educated to degree (Level 6)/HND (Level 5)/HNC (Level 4) or equivalent or a recognised apprenticeship in a Science discipline with significant post‑qualification work experience.
  • Extensive experience of leadership and line management of technical and experimental staff in a Higher Education setting.
  • Experience of management of complex technical laboratory facilities.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience of working within a university or industrial laboratory environment or other large diverse public sector environment.
  • Significant experience of Management within a science and engineering research environment.
