We are seeking a motivated and collaborative individual to join our team as a Senior Clinical Teacher. This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to shaping the next generation of optometrists by delivering high-quality clinical and practical teaching, supervising students in patient-facing environments, and supporting them to develop the knowledge, confidence and professional judgement required for effective practice. Working alongside academic, clinical and professional services colleagues, within a dynamic and inclusive environment.
Responsibilities
- Delivering clinical and practical teaching to undergraduate Optometry students, supporting development of professional skills
- Supervising students in clinic environments, providing guidance, feedback, and ensuring appropriate patient care decisions
- Supporting the planning and delivery of teaching sessions in collaboration with Unit Coordinators and Service Leads
- Contributing to the assessment of student performance using defined criteria and providing constructive feedback
- Identifying and responding to student learning needs, adapting approaches to support engagement and progression

- Ability to communicate complex clinical information clearly to a range of audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills, including pastoral support and managing sensitive situations
- Ability to engage and motivate learners in a clinical teaching context
Essential Criteria
- Experience of delivering or supporting clinical/practical teaching or supervision
- Experience of working in an optometry or clinical practice environment
- Experience of assessing performance or supporting learner development (formal or informal)
- Registration with the General Optical Council (GOC)
