We are seeking an outstanding and collaborative individual to join our team as Research Professor of Audiology. This senior academic role offers an exceptional opportunity to provide strategic leadership in research and mentoring within the Manchester Centre for Audiology and Deafness (ManCAD), part of the Division of Psychology, Communication and Human Neuroscience in the School of Health Sciences. This is a full‑time, permanent Professorial appointment (Grade 9) based at the University’s Oxford Road campus. The post is central to the University’s ambitions in audiology and hearing health research and will play a key role in shaping the future direction of research activity within ManCAD and the wider Faculty of Biology, Medicine and Health. You will work closely with the Head of ManCAD to develop and deliver an internationally leading research portfolio in audiology. In addition, you will co‑lead the Hearing Health theme of the NIHR Manchester Biomedical Research Centre, contributing to translational research that improves outcomes for people with hearing loss and those who are Deaf.
Responsibilities
- Lead and deliver a high‑impact, externally funded research programme in audiology or a closely related discipline.
- Provide strategic research leadership within ManCAD and the NIHR Manchester BRC Hearing Health theme.
- Produce and disseminate research outputs of national and international standing.
- Mentor early‑career researchers and supervise postgraduate research students.
- Build interdisciplinary collaborations within the University and with external partners, including clinical, policy and industry stakeholders.

Essential Criteria
- A PhD in Audiology or a closely related discipline.
- A track record of excellence in research in the broad field of audiology research (including disciplines such as clinical audiology, paediatric audiology, public health, communication, hearing science, psychoacoustics, human auditory physiology and neuroimaging, audio engineering, or any other disciplines related to audiology and human hearing) as evidenced by high‑quality international publications.
- A track record of obtaining research grant income.
- A track record of leading research grants and projects.
- An ability and willingness to contribute to the further development of the Division and ManCAD.
- Evidence of successful leadership and management.
- Evidence of successful mentoring and support of the careers of colleagues at all levels.
- Proven experience of successfully supervising doctoral students.
- Evidence of an ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary research.
- Excellent communication skills including ability to listen actively, negotiate, resolve conflict and communicate with a diverse range of people.
- Ability to write and communicate effectively to non‑academic audiences such as policy makers, practitioners and/or the general public.
- A track record of establishing links with relevant external bodies.
