The University of Manchester invites applications from candidates with a PhD in public health, (occupational) epidemiology, data science, social science, health economics, statistics or equivalent for a research associate position to investigate and evaluate employability services for people with chronic diseases in Greater Manchester.
We are looking for an enthusiastic researcher with a PhD in public health, (occupational) epidemiology, data science, social science, health economics, statistics or equivalent. The successful candidate will be involved in the evaluation of employability provision services provided by Manchester Foundation Trust and Manchester council including the Work Well and the Get Britain Working Economic Activity Trailblazer services. These services provide early intervention to those on long-term sick leave or those who are currently economically inactive, as evidence shows this is the most effective way of helping people to stay in work or go back to work.
You will work closely with researchers at the University of Manchester with expertise in (occupational) epidemiology, health economics and service evaluation together with policy makers in Greater Manchester to evaluate these important services. The project is a mixed methods project including analyses of quantitative data obtained as part of the service evaluation. You are also expected to conduct interviews and focus groups with service participants and others involved in the service provision and analyse the data.
The Work Well service focuses on those with musculoskeletal (MSK) diseases since MSK is one of the main reasons given for ill health-related inactivity and can reduce productivity in the workplace. Over 20 million people in the UK have MSK conditions such as back pain, arthritis or osteoporosis. The focus of the Trailblazer service is for those with other long-term conditions including cancer, respiratory, gynaecology, pain management and paediatric transitions.
The main aim of this collaborative project between the University of Manchester, Manchester Council and Manchester Foundation Trust is to evaluate and assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and impact of the Employability Services provided through the Work Well and Trailblazer models embedded in healthcare pathways across Manchester and Trafford. It will inform future commissioning, identify best practices, and ensure accountability for public investment. The project is funded by Greater Manchester Council.
The post will be 1 FTE or a shared part-time post (total 1 FTE).
