Name: Dr. Juan F. Quintana
We are seeking an experienced postdoctoral research associate to lead an ongoing clinical study exploring the immunological basis of sleep disorders. This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in developing translational research whilst also maintaining their ability to conduct basic research in neuroimmunology. The postholder will work collaboratively with partners at the NHS and industrial collaborators to develop this research.
The role is based within the Quintana Lab, part of the Lydia Becker Institute of Immunology and Inflammation and the Geoffrey Jefferson Centre for Brain Research. The successful candidate will benefit from a rich network of national and international collaborators, ranging from basic scientists to clinical partners, within a research environment that values curiosity, passion, inclusion, humility and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- To conduct original research exploring the immunological basis of sleep disorders
- To identify and develop suitable techniques, and apparatus, for the collection and analysis of data
- To draft publications and prepare them for submission to refereed journals
- To submit publications to refereed journals
- To lead on and contribute to writing bids for research grants

About You
We encourage applications from individuals with a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. You should demonstrate:
Essential Criteria
- Hold a PhD in immunology (or related fields)
- Extensive and demonstrable experience in B cell biology through first-author publications
- Extensive and demonstrable industrial experience in Biosciences and/or industrial R&D
- Extensive and up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge in immunoparasitology
- Excellent technical skills in immunoparasitology and in vivo models of infection
- Proven ability to lead project and teams as demonstrated by publications as first-author and/or demonstrable deliverables within an industry setting
Desirable Criteria
- Experience working with African trypanosomes in mice at PhD level
- Experience working in industrial R&D
- Demonstrable track-record of high impact outputs as first author
