Health, Safety and Compliance Advisor - Bio Safety in Manchester

The role will be responsible for providing high quality advice, support and oversight of the day-to-day management of health, safety and compliance within the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE), delivering suitable assurances to the Department or Institute's Management Team for health and safety matters. It will enable and facilitate compliance with relevant legislation and University policies, advise staff and students on health and safety issues, promote a culture of best practice, and manage health and safety initiatives and operational issues through to successful conclusion.

Area of responsibility will be determined by the Faculty Safety, Compliance and Risk Manager, to accommodate the requirements of each School/Department/Research Institute. The post holder will be expected to share relevant expertise and best practice, assisting Schools, Departments or Institutes during periods of peak workload and provide cross-Faculty coverage for absences.

The post holder will be educated to degree level and hold a relevant health and safety qualification. Your previous experience should include a health, safety and compliance role, preferably within a similar higher education and research-focused environment, with an ability to manage a busy and diverse workload.

A significant part of this role will be for biological safety and the area of work will generally be determined by the Faculty Safety, Compliance and Risk Manager, to accommodate the requirements of each School/Department/Research Institute. The post holder will take particular responsibility for the ownership of all information pertaining to biological safety, including risk assessments, training, induction, inspections and record keeping.
