Job Description:

We invite applications for three permanent academic posts (including one at Senior Lecturer level) in any area of science that complements the Division of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Gastroenterology’s (DEG) diverse and multidisciplinary research portfolio. This opportunity reflects our strategic investment in research and teaching excellence. We will consider applications from a wide spectrum of sub-specialties but are particularly interested in individuals who will complement our existing strengths. We particularly welcome non-clinical discovery scientists and researchers who bring new technologies, approaches or ideas and are keen to collaborate across clinical and non-clinical boundaries. Our Division’s strengths span:

  • Biological Timing
  • Endocrinology, Diabetes & Metabolic Control
  • Gastroenterology, Hepatology & Nutrition
  • Tissue Repair, Fibrosis & Organ Regeneration

You will be expected to undertake teaching on biological sciences and medical programmes, and to conduct high quality, REF-returnable research that attracts external funding; develop productive local, national and international research collaborations; promote, develop and conduct interdisciplinary research; publish in high-quality journals; substantially contribute to teaching and assessment; provide academic and operational leadership; and help deliver the strategic goals of the Division. Applicants should have a PhD or equivalent in a relevant subject. We expect you to have published in leading journals and shown a commitment to teaching. Securing previous external research funding and having supervised postgraduate students would be advantageous at lecturer level and expected at senior lecturer level.

Our recruitment process will follow a two-stage process:

  • Stage One – Longlisted candidates will be invited to submit a pre-recorded research seminar (20–25 mins) for review by relevant staff.
  • Stage Two – Shortlisted candidates will be invited to formal interview.

We encourage early engagement with Divisional researchers before applying to explore alignment and potential collaborations. Please use our website & theme contacts below to facilitate this ().

Biological Timing: Dr Tim Brown –

Endocrinology/Metabolism: Prof Anne White –

What you will get in return:

  • Fantastic market leading Pension scheme
  • Excellent employee health and wellbeing services including an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Exceptional starting annual leave entitlement, plus bank holidays
  • Additional paid closure over the Christmas period
  • Local and national discounts at a range of major retailers
