As part of its ambitious strategy From Manchester for the world, the University is seeking to appoint a Co-opted Lay Member of its Audit and Risk Committee.

The Audit and Risk Committee plays a critical role in supporting the University’s Board of Governors by providing assurance on the effectiveness of governance, risk management, internal control and financial reporting arrangements. As a co-opted member, you will bring independent judgement, professional insight and constructive challenge to help safeguard the University’s integrity, resilience and long-term success.

The successful candidate will have significant experience in audit, finance and/or risk management, supported by a relevant accounting or auditing qualification. You will be able to analyse and interrogate complex information, exercise sound judgement, and contribute confidently within a committee setting, including challenging senior executives and external auditors where appropriate. An interest in the higher education sector and a strong commitment to public service are essential.

This is a non-executive, unremunerated role, with reasonable expenses reimbursed. The expected time commitment is approximately five days per year, based on preparation for and attendance at five committee meetings annually. Appointments are normally made for an initial term of up to three years, with the possibility of reappointment.
