We are seeking to appoint Café Team Leader to work in Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement’s popular Planet Café and new First Light Cafe. The post holder will play a vital role in the day to day running of our retail cafés.

Jodrell Bank Centre for Engagement is one of the University of Manchester\’s Cultural Institutions and is dedicated to engaging audiences with the science, culture, and history of Jodrell Bank Observatory, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, via its galleries, exhibitions, events and festivals. We operate as a social enterprise, and are dependent on self-generated revenue to cover our costs, of which catering income is a vital source.

Key duties include

  • Support the delivery of a consistent, customer focussed catering offer, promoting a positive visitor experience at all times
  • Actively support the supervisor in mentoring and guiding colleagues for appropriate service standards.
  • Cafe, barista and delivered catering services as required
  • Assisting with food preparation, stock control and storage
  • Ensure that areas are well presented, and maintain a clean, tidy, welcoming, safe and hygienic environment at all times

You will have experience of working in a café environment. Food hygiene and allergen qualifications are essential as well as significant understanding of health & safety relevant to working in a café. You will need to have excellent customer service and communication skills, be a good team worker, and be reliable and flexible.

Part time vacancy @ 21 hours, Shift patterns will vary but will include weekend and Bank holiday work. Due to the requirements of events, there will be occasional early morning and evening work involved with this role.

The Discovery Centre is rurally located, 20 miles south of Manchester, and applicants will need their own means of transportation in order to travel to and from work.
