Background:

The Martin Harris Centre for Music and Drama and Film, based in the School of Arts, Languages and Cultures, is a performance space situated at the heart of the University of Manchester’s campus.

The Martin Harris Centre offers a varied programme of arts events, many of which are free, to educate, stimulate and engage audiences, as well as provide memorable and inspirational experiences. Events are open to the public and include concerts, theatre productions, literature and spoken word events, seminars and lectures.

The Martin Harris Centre supports performances and events from the Centre for New Writing, Creative Manchester and many of the other subject areas within the School.

Overall Purpose of Role:

The post-holder supports the Music, Drama and Film department activities and other external facing areas in the School e.g. Creative Manchester, and is the first point of contact at reception to students, staff, visitors and the public, and provides welcoming and efficient customer service. The role is also responsible for administration duties for the operation of events in the Martin Harris Centre and across the School. They work with colleagues in the Arts Administration Team and key members of the Faculty of Humanities Technical Services Team as well as other managers and senior staff across the school to ensure events run smoothly. As part of their work in the Martin Harris Centre, this role works in box office (requires work during unsociable hours) operating box office ticket system, stewarding and events administration with external ticketing partners and marketing.

In addition to working in the Martin Harris Centre, the post-holder is a member of the broader Professional Services team in SALC and to ensure flexibility and variety, the post holder could be asked to work in other areas of the School. The most prevalent example of this is their work for the School’s Social Responsibility Director and Committee.
