We are looking for lawyers to join our team as either a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in our Law Academic Team based at our Leeds Campus. This role operates on a 5-over-7-day working pattern, which may include evenings and weekends to support our flexible delivery model.
Reporting into our Academic Management Team, you will be providing tuition across The University of Law course portfolio including the BPC, SQE, Law Conversion Programmes (PGDL and MAL), LLM in Legal Practice, LLB, Professional Skills Course/Professional Development, Academic Masters courses and/or other University courses to the best possible standard.
In addition to teaching and assessing on our programmes, we also provide opportunities to deliver our Professional Development courses to practitioners, design and assess on our CILeX programme and, as the sole assessor of the Higher Rights qualification, you will be involved in Higher Rights assessment design and assessing candidates.
ULaw is committed to supporting your professional growth to become an outstanding lecturer. Following completion of your probation we will enrol you on our PGCHE (Postgraduate Certificate of Higher Education) and support you to obtain this qualification and FHEA (Fellow of the Higher Education Academy). We also offer the opportunity to obtain your Higher Rights of audience, if you are a solicitor without Higher Rights teaching on the BPC. In addition, suitable candidates can help shape and strengthen our research culture, with research time release to pursue scholarship and publish work on issues of importance to both the legal community and academia.
We are open to applicants with experience in all areas of law. We are particularly interested in receiving applications from qualified lawyers (solicitors and barristers) with experience in practice, to teach on our BPC and SQE professional courses.
As Our Lecturer / Senior Lecturer, You Will
- Deliver high quality teaching and support for learning, including communication with other academics for the continuous improvement of teaching and student support
- Identify the need for developing the content, structure, assessment within modules with colleagues and make proposals on how this should be achieved.
- Contribute to effective design and review of inclusive learning. Maintain quality standards and regulations in curricular design.
- Routinely communicate complex and conceptual ideas to those with limited knowledge and understanding as well as to peers using high level skills
- Act as a module tutor, academic coach and signpost students on pastoral aspects during their learning journey.

Requirements for Lecturer Positions
- Undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant subject
- Fellowship of Advance HE (HEA) or equivalent or willingness to work towards*
- Relevant teaching qualification or willingness to work towards PGCHE*
- Note: if you do not currently hold this, it is a requirement of the University that you will enrol into the programme (delivered and financially supported by the University), usually within 12 months of passing probation. Successful completion/qualification is essential to this role.
Requirements for Senior Lecturer Positions
- Postgraduate qualification or equivalent in a relevant subject
- Fellowship of Advance HE (HEA)
- Relevant teaching qualification
Senior Lecturers will have developed significant expertise in the application and practical delivery of a range of teaching techniques, pastoral care, mentoring colleagues, assessment design, marking and team leadership.
