Location: Birmingham. As we continue to diversify our programmes and portfolio, we are looking for high-calibre people to join our bank of Head Exam Invigilators to work on an ad-hoc basis during our busy examination periods. As a Head Exam Invigilator you will be working on a casual basis during our academic year and will be responsible for upholding the integrity of our examination process by conducting examinations in accordance with the University of Law regulations. You will facilitate the smooth running of assessment provisions by leading a team of Exam Invigilators, overseeing their work throughout the exam day. As the Head Invigilator, you will be expected to operate as an extension of a member of the Assessments team; undertaking responsibility to ensure operational excellence in assessment processes and maintaining professionalism at all times as a representative of the University.
Responsibilities
- Set up and supervise the examinations.
- Be responsible for the Exam Invigilators, ensuring they have reported for duty and signed in. It is the Head Invigilator's responsibility to report any absences to the Assessments Office.
- Assign roles to the Exam Invigilators and ensure all Invigilators are carrying out their assigned work throughout the day.
- Ensure guidelines and procedures are followed and all relevant administrative tasks are carried out during the examinations, including recording student attendance and scanning of scripts.
- Maintain the security and confidentiality of examination papers.
- Report directly to the Assessments Office.
Qualifications / What we are looking for
- A good command of the English language, both written and verbal.
- Can relay written and verbal instructions to both candidates and members of staff.
- A reliable and punctual work ethic.
- The ability to direct a team and assign work efficiently and fairly.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- The ability to take command of the room.
- Experience of invigilating exams is required with the Head Invigilator position.
NB – This role involves regularly walking around the building and carrying examination materials. Hours of work will vary throughout the year according to examination scheduling and invigilation requirements. There are no guaranteed hours and Invigilators on our available list will have the option to turn down offers of work. The hourly rate is £13.10 per hour and we will also pay up to £10 per day for travel/parking – reimbursed with valid receipts.
