Position Summary

Patient Access Representative is responsible for greeting patients and visitors in outpatient registration areas. They are the first point of contact and are monitored for customer service excellence. The role involves obtaining accurate patient demographic and insurance information to ensure proper reimbursement, and communicating with patients professionally regarding financial matters.

Responsibilities and Essential Job Functions

  1. Greet customers courteously and promptly.
  2. Verify patient information, obtain signatures, and collect insurance cards and driver licenses. Enter/update patient data accurately in the system and maintain related documentation.
  3. Manage appointment scheduling, including adjustments and reminders, following established procedures.
  4. Answer and screen calls, take messages, and route calls appropriately, ensuring courteous and efficient communication.
  5. Collect co-pays and outstanding balances, and reconcile payments daily.
  6. Serve as liaison between patients and medical staff, assisting with scheduling and insurance queries.
  7. Check out patients, provide visit information, and schedule future appointments.
  8. Maintain a clean and organized front desk and waiting area.
  9. If authorized, accurately enter clinical information into the EMR related to assigned tasks.
  10. Participate as a team member within the Patient Centered Medical Home model.
  11. Perform professional, clinical, or technical competencies as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Relevant previous experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Healthcare experience preferred.
