Finance Business Partner – University of Huddersfield
In 2024, the University of Huddersfield started to build a new finance business partnering team within their finance department to add value across the University. This is a second newly created role as a Hybrid Finance Business Partner to join this team and collaborate closely with the recently appointed Finance Business Partner, Head of Finance Business Partnering, and the wider finance team.
An ideal position for people who enjoy engaging with their colleagues and stakeholders in person. The expectation is that you’ll be onsite in Huddersfield 3 days per week , but the right candidate for this role will thrive in an environment centred around in-person collaboration with academic and financial services colleagues.
You’ll be a qualified accountant who, as a Finance Business Partner, is inspired by the prospect of working in higher education and supporting the University’s strategic direction. You’ll be managing a small team and building successful relationships with Deans, Directors, Heads of Department, and School Operations Managers while promoting excellent team working practices across the University.

What you’ll be doing as Finance Business Partner…
- Lead a small team within a recently centralised financial management service
- Work in partnership with designated stakeholders to provide critical challenge and decision support
- Support annual planning and financial forecasting, ensuring alignment between strategic and operational plans
- Lead regular budget review meetings to help stakeholders understand their cost and income drivers
- Provide financial expertise for course costings, business cases, and statutory returns
- Contribute to the development of financial information packs to meet stakeholder needs
- Work collaboratively across Financial Services to ensure high levels of stakeholder satisfaction
What you’ll need to offer…
- Full accounting qualification (ACMA, ACCA, ACA or similar) with up-to-date technical knowledge
- Experience of working in a business partnering capacity in a large and/or complex organisation
- Experience of working with and influencing senior stakeholders with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft 365 and a commitment to championing a “digital first” approach
- Ability to develop a deep understanding of business areas to provide informed financial advice
