Edinburgh Innovations is the University of Edinburgh’s central commercialisation services function, supporting research commercialisation, intellectual property management, and engagement with industry partners. Working in close partnership with academic colleagues, we help protect and translate research outputs to deliver economic and societal impact.

We are seeking an AI & Software Licensing Associate to support the commercialisation of intellectual property arising from the University of Edinburgh’s internationally recognised research in artificial intelligence, data science, quantum computing, and digital technologies. The University of Edinburgh is one of the UK’s leading hubs for AI and data science research, with world‑class centres and deep expertise in machine learning, robotics, data analytics, and computational modelling. Edinburgh’s vibrant AI ecosystem spans foundational research through to real‑world applications across health, finance, climate, robotics, and public sector innovation.

Working closely with Technology Transfer Managers, academic researchers and EI colleagues, you will contribute to the evaluation and commercialisation of cutting‑edge digital and AI technologies, including software, data assets, and associated know‑how, while also contributing to the assessment of opportunities across other domains, such as Physical Sciences and Engineering, as required. You will play a key role in activities such as IP disclosure evaluation, due diligence, market analysis, and early marketing of technologies, supporting TTM colleagues in licensing and spin‑out formation activities.

This is a varied and fast‑paced position suited to someone who is excited by the prospect of working at the intersection of deep technology and commercial strategy and with the ability to manage multiple workstreams with confidence and independence. We also support hybrid working on a non‑contractual basis, offering a blend of home and on‑site working to help you balance work and life effectively.

The salary for this post is Grade 7 ÂŁ39,234 to ÂŁ48,136 per annum.

The Experience And Qualities We Are Looking For

  • A degree in Computer Science, Physical Sciences, Software Engineering, Data Science, AI, or a closely related discipline.
  • Knowledge of technology transfer, within university or equivalent experience gained within a commercial or innovation‑focused environment, together with an understanding of intellectual property management and commercial due diligence.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities simultaneously, while maintaining a proactive customer focus.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with confidence working with academic researchers and commercial partners.
