Job Description:

College of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures, English & Scottish Literature.

Fixed Term Contract – 7 Months (From January 2025).

If you already hold a contract of employment with the University of Edinburgh, you should apply for this role via the internal applications portal .

The successful candidate will be capable of excellence in teaching and a commitment to innovative approaches to teaching and contribute to the teaching of modern and contemporary literature in English, and to the teaching of survey courses in literary theory.

They will participate in curriculum and programme development at undergraduate and postgraduate level, both within the English Literature subject area and within the School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures. The successful candidate will be expected to play a full part in the collegiate life of the Subject and the School and undertake appropriate administrative roles.

We particularly welcome applications from candidates with research expertise in one or more of the following areas identified as existing or emergent strengths within the English and Scottish Literature subject area: digital humanities; economic humanities; environmental humanities; health humanities; LGBTQ+ studies; postcolonial, transnational and/or diasporic literary studies.

Please note that while the School of Literatures, Languages & Cultures operates with a hybrid working model, teaching is delivered in person and on campus.

Your skills and attributes for success:

β€’ PhD in a relevant field of English and Scottish Literature, awarded by the time of application.

β€’ Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching. including design of course materials

β€’ Experience of marking and assessment of student performance at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level.

β€’ Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate dissertation supervision.

β€’ Ability to contribute to the teaching of literary theory

β€’ Experience in using IT effectively for teaching and learning, as appropriate to the role.
