Please note, the individual will be based full-time at Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST; 华中科技大学), China.
This is an exciting opportunity to join our team delivering the new international Joint Education Programme (JEP) in Biomedical Science between the University of Birmingham (UoB) and the Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) in China.
The programme will allow students to gain a BSc Biomedical Sciences Honours degree from UoB and a Pharmacy degree from HUST over the course of 4 years. Students will study both programmes in parallel, gaining knowledge and experience in both subjects.
All material will be delivered in English in China and the successful candidate will only be required to teach on the UoB part of the course.
In 2026, the JEP will move from the main HUST campus to the brand new HUST Junshan International campus in Wuhan.
At HUST there are approximately 55,000 students of which 3,400 are international students from 155 countries.
The individual will take significant responsibility for the teaching and learning on the BSc Biomedical Sciences degree part of the JEP and may have the potential to act as the Programme Lead for the BSc Biomedical Sciences degree part of the JEP.
We are looking for candidates with a PhD and extensive teaching and leadership experience at undergraduate level, in any relevant biomedical subject.
Interviews for this post will be conducted in person or remotely.
The individual will contribute to the teaching, leadership and administration of the Joint Educational Programme (JEP) delivered at HUST.
Main Duties:
- Contribute to leading curriculum development and/or renewal.
- Develop and manage approaches to teaching and learning that are best practice in the subject area or institution.
- Advise others on aspects of learning, teaching and assessment.
- Advance the practice of teaching in their modules and within the school.
- Inform your teaching practice by discipline-based research.
- Frequently update your subject expertise, and undertake personal professional development in teaching.
- Co-supervise doctoral students to completion.
Management/Administration:
- Contribute to Departmental /School administration.
- Where appropriate, lead and manage a team to devise and implement a new and/or revised process.
- Promote equality, diversity and inclusion through monitoring and evaluation.
Person Specification:
- A PhD or equivalent in a Biomedical discipline.
- Demonstrable excellence in delivering Biomedical education, management and administration.
- Ability to be based in China.
- Previous experience of Transnational Education (TNE) or working outside of the UK would be an advantage but is not essential.
Salary & Benefits:
Assistant Professor at - £47,389 - £56,535 (UK Grade 8) per annum.
Converted rate of RMB 458,754 - 552,152 per annum.
