Job purpose

  • Support the development and delivery of UK Dairy Carbon Network – which demonstrates and validates multiple greenhouse gas emission reducing measures on commercial UK dairy farms.
  • The role holder will act as the UK Agri-Tech Centre lead for its designated activities with the project.
  • Ensure effective linkages with other members of the consortium and the wider supply chain and internally at the UK Agri-Tech Centre to ensure the successful delivery of the UK Dairy Carbon Network project.

This role is field-based, which means you’ll be travelling to client sites, partner sites and our locations as part of your day-to-day work. You may also work from your home address for a minority of the week or attend one of our sites from time to time. Our main locations are: Oxford, York, Edinburgh, Cranfield, Newport (Midlands).

Key responsibilities

  • Lead on the UK Agri-Tech Centre activities with the UK Dairy Carbon Network.
  • Ensure robust and operational information, data collection framework and activities to meet UKDCN project commitments.
  • Chair work package meetings and act as the main UK Agri-Tech Centre contact with project lead partner providing regular updates and submitting reports.

Strategic Responsibilities:

  • Acts as the technical lead for the UK Agri-Tech Centre and UK Dairy Carbon Network as required.
  • Develop and manage activities that fit within the contractual remit of the UK Agri-Tech Centre with the UK Dairy Carbon Network Projects.
  • Deliver all activities within time and budget.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Key point of contact for the UK Dairy Carbon Network ensuring project commitments are met and outputs are technically robust including supporting the development & review of the UK-DCN mitigation catalogue.
  • Develop and maintain a strong profile and connection with UK Dairy Carbon Network consortium members, providing industry representation.
  • Provide relevant information in a timely manner and of a high standard to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the UK Dairy Carbon Network and the UK Agri-Tech Centre to a range of stakeholders.

What we are looking for

Essential:

  • Technical experience of the dairy industry and its stakeholders and organisations.
  • Relevant degree or qualification in agriculture/related discipline.
  • Experience with and involvement in programmes with multiple stakeholders and priorities.
  • Ability to critically assess evidence, identify gaps, and articulate limitations clearly.
  • Awareness of animal health & welfare relevant regulatory frameworks (as required).
  • Ability to pivot quickly to deal with new and emerging priorities.
  • Team player, self-motivated.
  • Strong communication skills to a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent time management.
  • Able to prioritise workload and make effective decisions at pace when required.
  • Excellent IT skills and proficient with Microsoft environments.
  • Full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience related to livestock GHG emissions or climate mitigation, such as:
    • Methane reduction strategies.
    • Feed or nutrition interventions.
    • Manure and fertiliser management.
    • Systems-level decarbonisation.
  • Familiarity with Defra-funded or UK public sector programmes.
  • Experience working alongside data, modelling, or measurement teams to support impact claims.
  • Prior engagement with government agencies, research institutes, or industry bodies.
  • Project Management Experience.

Technical / Professional Competencies:

  • Degree in Agriculture, Animal Science, Agronomy or a related field or equivalent commercial experience. Post-graduate qualification preferable.
  • In-depth knowledge of R&D, agricultural trials.
