We are looking for a dynamic, motivated and visionary Head of PE in a school which offers comprehensive CPD, exciting development opportunities and good promotion prospects for our teachers. The main purpose of this post is to achieve outstanding outcomes at KS3/4 in the curriculum and wider curricular offer within the sports department.

We offer the following seasonal sports within the curriculum or as extra-curricular activities: Athletics, Basketball, Cricket, Dance, Football, Gymnastics, Health-related fitness, Hockey, Netball, Rounders, Softball, Trampolining, Rugby, Fencing, Badminton and Tennis.

The Head of PE will have responsibility for KS3/4 curriculum development and delivery for PE and work closely with the Trust Director of Sport on curriculum, teaching & learning projects. This is an excellent development role for a member of staff with proven success as a physical educational practitioner. There is also an opportunity to work with the Trust Director of Sport and Headteacher to potentially introduce GCSE PE into the Key Stage 4 curriculum in the future.

The intent of our PE Curriculum is to provide all students with high quality PE and Sport provision, which focuses on the holistic development of the student, allowing them to achieve their own personal best. Students will learn fundamental movement skills that will allow them to experience success in a range of sports, develop specific sporting knowledge, but also they will develop a broader understanding of the skills and knowledge that is needed for them to be a lifelong learner in PE and sport. We have a holistic assessment, which assesses the students cognitively, physically and socially. The promotion of competition and developing positive attitudes underpins every activity area within the Physical Education Curriculum at Twyford.

As well as opportunities through Core PE lessons, students can access a wide range of extracurricular activities through the wider learning programme and access recreational training sessions and a wide range of competitive fixtures.

Some of last year’s successes include:

  • Indoor and Outdoor Ealing Borough Athletics champions across three age groups.
  • Ealing Borough Netball winners across two age groups.
  • Ealing Borough Football league and cup winners (teams from U12-18 boys and girls).
  • Ealing Borough Rugby winners at all age groups.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the National Curriculum to Key Stage 4.
  • An understanding of recent curriculum / learning developments.
  • An understanding and experience of the strategies required to motivate and enthuse all students across the ability range as part of a whole school approach to raising achievement.
  • Understanding of the processes and techniques required to assess, record and report students’ learning effectively.
  • Experience of the use of student results analysis to inform practice and target improvement.
  • Experience of leading a tutor group.
  • Ability to be reflective and driven towards self-improvement.
  • Energy and enthusiasm.

About the school Twyford CE High School Twyford Church of England High School is the founding school of the Twyford CE Academies Trust which is the highest performing Trust in the UK. It has developed specialisms in Music and Modern Foreign Languages and a reputation for excellence which has made it heavily oversubscribed. Twyford has very strong Christian foundations and is rated ‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted (October 2023) and was very successful in its SIAMS inspection (November 2024). Twyford educates 1000 students in years 7-11 and consistently achieves outstanding GCSE results with a Progress 8 score of +1.26 in 2023 and +1.1 in 2024. Twyford’s students achieve strong results with 81% of students achieving a grade 5 or above in English and Maths, and an Attainment 8 score of 67 in 2025. The school has a large Sixth Form of over 650 students and offers a wide range of A-Levels with strong results across the 25 subjects on offer. In 2025 nearly 50% of A levels were graded A* or A and over 75% graded B or above. The majority of Sixth Form students progress to university taking a wide range of routes including competitive courses such as Medicine and Engineering at Oxbridge and top Russell Group universities. There is also an Additional Resourced Centre for students with EHC Plans, mainly focused on students with Autism and Speech & Language difficulties. The school prides itself on its inclusive approaches and there is an active House System and Sixth Form Community Service Programme which supports this.

The admissions policy for each Trust school includes criterion for ‘Children of all staff’ places for Year 7 entry. The Twyford Church of England Academies Trust (TCEAT) is a compact Church of England multi-academy Trust which comprises four schools in the London Borough of Ealing. The Trust was established in October 2011 to enable an existing School, Twyford CE High School, to build on its successes and look outward to the large number of parents who were eager to become part of its community. Over a 10 year period it launched three new schools Ada Lovelace, Ealing Fields and William Perkin all of which have achieved progress outcomes ranking them in the top 5% of schools nationally, making TCEAT the highest attaining Trust in the UK for student progress by Year 11.
