About the Role

The Twisting Ducks Theatre Company is looking for a new Treasurer to help us achieve our vision of a society that values the diversity, creativity and citizenship of people with learning disabilities and autistic people.

As Treasurer you will contribute to making sure The Twisting Ducks grows its impact and achieves its strategic goals, including reaching more beneficiaries, widening our audiences, developing our people and strengthening the organisation’s financial sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

You will work with the Board of 6 skilled, committed trustees – including trustees with lived experience of learning disabilities and autism – and the senior team, to help us achieve our Mission using the arts to tackle inequalities and improve wellbeing.

  • Support the creation of and maintenance of financial policies and procedures to ensure transparency and accountability.
  • Prepare accurate financial statements, budgets and reports for the Board and external stakeholders.
  • Provide financial insight and strategic advice to support decision‑making and the long‑term sustainability of the organisation.
  • Ensure all financial activities comply with charity law, relevant regulations and best practice.
  • Act as the financial liaison for the Board, presenting information in an accessible manner for trustees with learning disabilities.
  • Collaborate with the senior team, funders and external partners on fundraising, grant applications and income generation.
  • Promote innovative, accessible ways of working that enable effective participation by all trustees.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 3 years or more of professional finance experience.
  • Knowledge of charity finance is an advantage.
  • Strong commitment to our mission and values.
  • Willingness to promote the rights of people with a learning disability and autistic people.
  • Strong networking skills and desire to use professional contacts to support the Twisting Ducks mission.
  • Strategic perspective.
  • Excellent communication skills and an understanding of how to add constructively to discussions.
  • Eagerness to build new relationships and become part of a team.

Previous board experience is not necessary.

About the Programme

The Twisting Ducks delivers:

  • 9 creative sessions per week across 4 North East localities.
  • Enabling beneficiaries to lead on their own projects, e.g., devising and performing their own original live theatre that reflects their lived experience.
  • Outreach drama workshops led by our artists with learning disabilities and autism to involve our wider community and use drama as a safe tool to explore social issues.
  • Delivering commissioned projects (films, multi‑media performances) that raise awareness, generate income and provide paid employment opportunities for our group members.
  • People with lived experience leading on The Twisting Ducks work, including at governance level, is core to the organisation.
