We are seeking a friendly, organised, and patient-focused GP Receptionist to join our busy and supportive practice team. This is a key front-facing role, ideal for someone who enjoys helping others, works well under pressure, and takes pride in providing excellent service to patients.
Main duties of the job:
- As a GP Receptionist, you will be the first point of contact for patients, both in person and remotely.
- You will support patient access to care through our triage and appointment systems, while also carrying out a range of administrative duties to ensure the smooth running of the practice.
- Flexibility is essential, as overtime will be required to cover sickness and holiday leave.
About us:
The Tutbury Practice is a friendly semi-rural GP surgery located in the village of Tutbury, providing high-quality primary care to a patient population of approximately 8,500. We proudly serve patients from Tutbury and the surrounding areas, including Rolleston, Hatton, and Stretton.
Our clinical team is made up of two GP partners and four salaried GPs, supported by a highly skilled multidisciplinary team that includes a clinical pharmacist, nurse practitioner, and first contact physiotherapist. We are also fortunate to have a fantastic, friendly, and experienced nursing team, alongside a dedicated and approachable administration and reception team who play a vital role in supporting patient care.
Job responsibilities:
- Patient Access & Appointment Triage:
- Support patients in accessing care via the online triage system, including assisting those unable to complete forms independently.
- Review and appropriately route triage requests in line with practice protocols.
- Handle patient enquiries courteously and efficiently, providing accurate information.
- Manage requests for appointments, telephone consultations, and home visits.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Open and close the practice premises, following security and safety procedures.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail (physical and electronic).
- File, scan, and retrieve documents accurately.
- Process repeat prescription requests in line with practice guidelines.
- Provide general administrative support to clinicians and the wider team.
- Maintain clean and tidy shared areas and provide refreshments when required.
- Adhere to health & safety and infection control policies.
- Identify and report risks or concerns promptly.
- Handle all patient and practice information in strict confidence.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and external healthcare organisations.
- Contribute ideas to improve systems, processes, and patient experience.
- Participate in training, appraisals, and ongoing professional development.
