Overview

As a Band 5 A&E Nurse with Mid and South Essex, you will work in a high-pressure emergency department environment to monitor and care for patients who are seriously ill or unstable. You will be part of a welcoming, dedicated team using advanced medical equipment to provide constant monitoring and care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide constant monitoring and care for patients in a seriously ill or unstable condition.
  • Actively support emergency admissions and their families, communicating clinical information using a variety of methods to ensure effective understanding.
  • Assess and prioritise patient requirements, delegating effectively to others as needed.
  • Recognise, review and report patients\’ or clients\’ condition and any changes to it to senior staff within the multidisciplinary team.
  • Adhere to the NMC professional Code of Conduct.
  • Take blood, fit a cannula, and undertake patient observations (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration rate and oxygen level) as patient need dictates throughout the shift.
  • Treat resus patients and manage triage as required.
  • Work calmly in a high-pressure environment, drawing on quick-thinking abilities and clinical knowledge to assess and prioritise patient requirements while carrying out clinical care tasks.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Be a registered nurse.
  • At least 2 years post-graduate experience.
  • 6 months recent NHS experience within the last 3 years.
  • You will need to pass an enhanced background check.
  • Quick thinking abilities.
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to tasks.
  • Excellent timekeeping and the ability to work well under pressure.
  • Empathy and understanding.
  • A flexible attitude and a desire to learn and improve.
  • Active listening skills.
  • The ability to use a computer competently.
