We are looking for an experienced Professional Negligence Lawyer to join our team as a Senior Fee Earner, based in either Manchester or London. In this role you will manage your own caseload of professional indemnity claims across a range of professionals, while contributing to the development and management of our Alternative Business Structure (ABS).

Ideal candidate will have solid experience in professional negligence, ideally with exposure to defendant insurance work, and will be confident running their own caseload with minimal supervision. Travelers Europe offers flexibility to employees who wish to work on a hybrid basis: full‑time employees work three days a week in the office and two days at home (or pro rata for part‑time employees). This policy may be changed at the Company’s discretion.

What Will You Do?

  • Litigate cases to verdict, demonstrating superior use of trial skills and techniques.
  • Ability to independently handle a moderate caseload with moderate level of severity and complexity from case inception through to trial/resolution.
  • Work under the guidance of the Head of Legal Practice in litigating complex and high exposure files.
  • Conduct legal research as necessitated and supervise research projects delegated to Paralegals and Legal Secretaries.
  • Independently draft interim motions, briefs, disclosure requests and other court documents.
  • Attend court events and other appointments independently.
  • Learn and understand client expectations in addition to the key department business goals of ABS and assist in meeting those goals.
  • Handle and actively seek opportunities to become involved in special projects and on committees.
  • Provide recommendations and case analysis to business partners on appropriate file handling strategy.
  • Integrate legal support staff into the case handling process.
  • Build and maintain superior internal and external client relationships.
  • Complete all required administrative tasks including time reporting, closed cases, reports and other materials appropriate to performance of duties.
  • Effectively make use of technology and automation in the practice of law.
  • Adhere to all standards of excellence in file management.
  • Strictly adhere to the principles, outcomes and indicative behaviours of the Solicitors Regulation Authority Code of Conduct.
  • As an employee you are expected to act in an ethical manner at all times.
  • You will ensure you understand all compliance and regulatory requirements for your role by completing all necessary training and certifications.
  • You will ensure you keep adequate records of all transactions undertaken with customers, brokers and all other parties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Must Haves

  • University degree.
  • Fully qualified solicitor or a barrister in England and Wales.
  • Some Post Qualification Experience (PQE).
  • Must be authorised by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
  • Employment will be subject to authorisation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority if not already authorised.
