Overview
In this role you will own the full trading cycle for SME business, applying sharp risk analysis to secure profitable new and retained accounts. You will underwrite, negotiate and manage an assigned portfolio across multiple products, aiming to grow the broker book and hit performance targets. The position emphasizes collaboration with brokers and internal partners to identify cross-sell opportunities and improve portfolio profitability. Responsibilities
- Manage profitability, growth and retention of a portfolio of low to moderately complex accounts across most products
- Underwrite and negotiate risks to maximise profitability, including Mid Term Adjustments (MTAs)
- Proactively manage portfolio to meet KPIs and target new business and retention
- Identify risk characteristics and take corrective action in collaboration with manager
- Identify and capture opportunities to write additional lines of business
- Utilise technology platforms to quote and bind E-Trade risk efficiently
- Provide input for Underwriting Reviews and manage action points
- Cultivate relationships with internal partners to identify cross-selling opportunities
- Maintain broker relationships to market and sell Travelers products and write/retain accounts within risk appetite
- Develop and execute pipeline/retention plans with sales for team success
- Train and mentor less experienced underwriters
- Support junior team members and referrals
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
- Good knowledge of products, regulatory environment and local insurance market
- Analytical/critical thinking for underwriting, market analysis, and decision-making aligned with risk appetite
- Strong communication and negotiation skills with brokers
- Ability to work with diverse teams and leverage differences for business goals
- Industry/competitor analysis to derive insights from press and trade sources
- Project management experience involving analysis and implementation of routine changes to products
