The role offers a strong blend of VAT compliance, advisory work, process improvement and business partnering, with the opportunity to contribute to commercial projects, system changes and group restructuring activity.
What you will be doing
VAT Compliance & Reporting
- Preparation, review and submission of UK VAT returns for multiple entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timely filing.
- Ownership and maintenance of VAT registrations, VAT groupings and related HMRC correspondence.
- Management of VAT payment processes, reconciliations to the general ledger, and resolution of variances.
- Perform quarterly balance sheet VAT reconciliations.
- Support VAT audits and HMRC enquiries, including preparation of responses and coordination of supporting documentation.
- Own the intercompany invoicing process for our UK Destination Management Company.
Advisory, Projects & Change
- Provide VAT/GST advice on business projects, new initiatives and group restructuring activities.
- Assess VAT/GST implications of new transactions, supply chains and contractual arrangements, identifying and mitigating VAT risks.
- Provide VAT input into system implementations and process changes to ensure VAT compliance is embedded by design.
Finance & Accounts Payable Support
- Act as the primary VAT point of contact for the Financed Shared Services centre (including accounts payable and accounting functions).
- Support and advise on supplier invoice requirements to ensure VAT reclaim is valid and compliant.
- Assist in developing and maintaining VAT guidance and controls for Finance teams.
Stakeholder & Cross-Functional Support
- Liaise with internal stakeholders across Finance, Legal and Operations.
- Manage relationships with external VAT advisors where appropriate.
- A small amount of time will be spent assisting with data gathering for the group’s corporate insurance programme (no prior insurance experience required).
What we are looking for
- Strong UK VAT technical knowledge across compliance and advisory matters.
- Experience preparing or reviewing VAT returns in a multi‑entity or group environment.
- Practical experience with VAT registrations, VAT groupings and HMRC interaction.
- Experience advising on VAT implications for projects, restructures or business change.
- Understanding of VAT risks across procure‑to‑pay and supplier invoicing processes.
- Exposure to VAT input on system implementation or process improvement activity.
- Professional qualification such as CTA, ATT, ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
Experience in‑house, within travel, or with the Tour Operators’ Margin Scheme (TOMS) would be highly beneficial, but is not essential.
What we offer
- Competitive, market‑aligned salary.
- Working Pattern: Full‑time or 4 days per week considered.
- Annual bonus opportunity.
- 25 days annual leave, plus bank holidays.
- Pension and company benefits.
- Hybrid working, with 1–2 days per week from home.
- Full‑time or part‑time working pattern considered.
- Opportunity to work in a group‑level tax role with broad stakeholder exposure.
