We are looking for passionate people with a background in environmental science, sustainability or planning who can help shape the future of Wales. As part of the Development Planning Advice Service, you will influence strategic land use plans and projects seeking planning consent, with varied and rewarding work that can impact sustainable development across North Wales.
What you will do:
- Produce advice to Local Development Plans and their Strategic Environmental Assessments, ensuring the advice is robust, evidence‑based and delivered to deadline.
- Provide advice on pre‑application enquiries, development management consultations, Developments of National Significance and Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects.
- Prepare information for challenges against NRW development planning advice and attend appeals and inquiries.
- Develop and maintain effective customer relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to influence local development projects and plans early.
- Maintain auditable records to demonstrate compliance with legal and procedural requirements.
- Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post.
- Commit to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy.
- Commit to personal development through the Sgwrs personal development plan.
- Participate in incident response activities.
- Perform any other reasonable duties assigned, commensurate with the grade of this role.
Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills:
- Experience in development planning processes or environmental management and legislation within the development sector.
- Experience contributing to, applying, and/or reviewing environmental impact assessments.
- Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex issues to Local Planning Authorities, businesses and the public, and influence support.
- Strong self‑management and organisational skills.
- Ability to analyse complex information, solve problems, and make sound judgments.
- Team work and leadership skills, including coordinating virtual task groups.
Welsh Language level requirements:
- Essential: Level A2 – Elementary Level
- Desirable: Level B2 – Upper Intermediate
