About the Role

Traffic Group Signals is seeking a Hire Depot Supervisor to lead and manage their Cheltenham depot within its fleet hire division.

Reporting to the Regional Supervisor, the role is responsible for overseeing depot operations, managing staff, and ensuring a high standard of service, safety, and equipment quality for hire customers.

You will oversee the full hire lifecycle, including equipment preparation, testing, maintenance, repairs, stock control, and documentation.

Acting as the main point of contact for customer hire enquiries, you will build strong working relationships and ensure a consistently high level of service.

The role involves close collaboration with engineering, professional services, and commercial teams, as well as supporting installations, audits, and site activity when required.

The ideal candidate is organised, safety-conscious, customer-focused, and confident working under their own initiative.

Flexibility is essential, as the role may involve out-of-hours work.

Key Responsibilities

  • Run the day-to-day depot operation, managing staff and ensuring compliance with company policies and processes.
  • Oversee preparation, testing, maintenance, repair, and refurbishment of hire equipment to required quality standards.
  • Manage hire equipment from dispatch through to return, including deliveries, collections, battery maintenance, call-outs, and system documentation.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for customer hire enquiries, maintaining strong customer relationships and professional representation of the business.
  • Coordinate with Professional Services, Engineering, Commercial, and Hire teams to ensure effective service delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Monitor and manage fleet stock levels, depot efficiency, and equipment readiness.
  • Attend sites when required for installation, maintenance, audits, and inspections, ensuring adherence to health and safety standards.
  • Complete audits, reports, and documentation accurately and on time.
  • Support commercial activity, including new business development, demonstrations, and field trials.

Skills & Experience

  • Full UK driving licence (with minimal points).
  • Educated to GCSE or A-level standard.
  • Comfortable using paperless/digital systems.
  • Strong communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Customer-focused and safety-conscious approach.
  • Experience in highways maintenance or traffic signal installation desirable.
  • Relevant industry training (e. g. Lantra/CSCS) preferred.
  • Flexible and willing to work out of hours as required.
