The Tinned Fish Market is an independent business specialising in the highest quality, artisanal tinned fish sourced from family-run canneries in the UK, Spain, Portugal, France, Latvia and Scandinavia. We ship to customers across the UK and around the world via our online store, and meet customers face to face at our busy Borough Market shop. We also supply many UK restaurants, delicatessens and food halls, including Harrods, Selfridges and Booths with the incredible tins that we discover.

The Tinned Fish Market is looking for an exceptional Store Manager to lead the hardworking team in our Borough Market shop. The Tinned Fish Market is a fast-growing company looking to open more retail stores in the year ahead and as part of this expansion, we are looking for an ambitious individual who would like to be part of this journey.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Overseeing daily operations of the retail store, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
  • The ability to drive sales and thrive in a busy retail environment, and to inspire your team to do the same.
  • Leading and motivating the store team to achieve sales targets and deliver outstanding customer service, providing a courteous, helpful and efficient service at all times.
  • Possess in-depth knowledge about the product including its provenance and sustainability and share this with your team and with customers.
  • The ability to work efficiently under pressure when the shop is busy, and to ensure your team is working as a cohesive, efficient unit during these times.
  • Recruit and train new team members as and when required.
  • Monitoring inventory levels, conducting regular stock assessments and coordinating with the warehouse to maintain optimal stock levels.
  • Liaising with Borough Market’s management team to ensure the smooth running of the shop and adhering to all policies and procedures.
  • Promoting a working environment in line with company ethos where team members are motivated and can thrive in their roles.
  • Conduct regular appraisals of each team member’s performance, recognizing and rewarding work that’s well done and encouraging development where it’s needed.
  • Ensure the store operates efficiently and adheres to health and safety regulations.
  • Conduct regular meetings/briefings with the retail team to communicate goals, expectations and updates.
  • Implementing merchandising strategies to enhance product visibility and appeal.
Candidate Profile:
  • A minimum of 2 years of Store Management experience.
  • Availability to work 5 days per week, including weekends.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with a polished professional approach.
  • Strong organizational and numerical skills, with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Results-driven mindset with a focus on achieving sales targets and KPIs.
  • A proactive individual, with the ability to motivate a team and also to work independently and take ownership of tasks.

This is a full-time, permanent position. Salary: £30,000 to £35,000 per year depending on experience. Benefits: Company pension, employee discount, 28 days of annual leave (including bank holidays).
