Your role: The Social Media and Platforms Journalist plays a key role in driving audience growth across social media and Apple News+. This role requires demonstrable experience in visual storytelling across multiple platforms, alongside a strong understanding of relevant channels including, but not limited to, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X and Reddit.
You will work closely with journalists, designers and video producers to present the high-quality journalism of The Times and The Sunday Times to both existing and new audiences. Expertise in optimising copy for social platforms, selecting the most effective formats for storytelling, and using data and analytics to inform decision-making is essential. This is a shift-based role, with work on a rota that includes weekends, mornings and evenings.
We are looking for a confident public speaker who can represent our team and our audiences to the wider newsroom. This position reports to the Head of Social Strategy (Editorial).
Day to day you will:
- Create social media content that engages our prospective audiences, in line with our masthead’s news values
- Write and edit copy, adapting images and multimedia for social media platforms
- Edit and select content for Apple News+
- Extract editorial insights from data, with a strong understanding of platform-specific metrics to inform decisions
- Champion the use of social media across the newsroom, being an ambassador for the opportunities, as well as mentoring journalists in using social media
- Represent our team’s priorities and ambitions at news conferences
