A leading Defence engineering company is seeking an experienced and hands-on Field Service Representative (FSR) to join their expanding technical support team in Newcastle. Specialising in combat engineering and counter-mine solutions, the company provides cutting-edge equipment to armed forces worldwide. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically minded, ex-military (ideally REME) professional looking to apply their mechanical and electrical expertise in a commercial, international role.
As an FSR, you will provide technical support across product testing, installation, demonstrations, diagnostics, maintenance, training, and repair, both on-site and at global customer locations, including military bases. You’ll also maintain the company’s demo fleet to ensure operational readiness at all times. You’ll act as a key technical ambassador for the business, engaging directly with users and military personnel to ensure equipment is used effectively and supported to the highest standard.
Key Responsibilities- Testing & Demonstration: Operate and demonstrate equipment at internal and customer sites, supporting training sessions and showcasing capabilities.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Diagnose and repair hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical systems, including PLC-controlled components. Produce clear technical service reports.
- Fleet Maintenance: Perform regular inspections, upgrades, and servicing of demonstration vehicles and platforms.
- Project Support: Collaborate with engineering and project teams to build and commission development hardware.
- Travel: Regular travel across the UK and overseas to support customer installations and training.
- Mentorship & Training: Deliver technical training and mentoring to team members and company employees.
- Strong hands-on background in supporting electro-mechanical systems, ideally in a defence, military, or heavy vehicle environment.
- Military vehicle experience (e.g., Warrior, Trojan) is highly advantageous.
- Background in the armed forces (e.g., REME or Royal Marines VM) preferred.
- Skilled in interpreting technical issues and performing on-the-spot repairs under pressure.
- Excellent communicator—confident in military and commercial environments.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a military or defence-related technical role.
- Mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical diagnostic and repair skills.
- PLC diagnostics experience is desirable.
- Competent with rigging and lifting equipment.
- Valid UK driving licence (HGV or large vehicle experience is a plus).
- IT-literate, including good working knowledge of MS Office (Excel & Word).
- Able to obtain and maintain UK security clearance (UK Passport holder ESSENTIAL).
- Have experience with armoured or heavy-duty vehicles.
- Have strong technical diagnostic capabilities, especially with hydraulics and PLCs.
