General Operator Newcastle upon Tyne, Tyne & Wear Open to working shift pattern days & nights with overtime An opportunity to join an exciting organisation as a General Operator. The purpose of the role you will be responsible for supporting production operations across various areas within the manufacturing facility. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety and quality standards, and flexibility to perform a variety of hands-on duties to meet production goals. Key responsibilities Perform shot blasting and surface preparation activities in line with production requirements. Operate overhead cranes and forklift trucks (FLT) safely for material movement and setup. Assist with assembly of components to ensure they meet quality standards. Conduct weld preparation, etching, and engraving tasks as instructed. Support profiling operations, including assisting in the setup of material on/off profiling machines. Install components using various techniques including but not limited to bonding, sealing, glueing operations. Perform masking and demasking operations in preparation for painting or coating processes. Operate hand presses and other manual tools to support fabrication and finishing tasks. Conduct Daily TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) activities, including cleaning, inspection, lubrication, and minor maintenance of equipment. Maintain accurate records of daily production activities, materials used, and quality checks.Principal responsibilities Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment following 5S and housekeeping standards. Identify and report any equipment malfunctions, defects, or safety hazards to the team leader. Operate machinery, tools, and equipment safely and efficiently in accordance with company procedures and training. Follow all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. Follow established processes in line with manufacturing instructions and SOPs. Conduct basic quality checks to ensure products meet required specifications. Record production data and complete relevant documentation accurately and on time. Ensure traceability of parts are maintained during production activities. Follow all company health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute ideas to enhance efficiency and quality. Perform other related duties as required by supervisors or management.Qualifications, Skills, and Experience Essential: Strong safety awareness, ensuring safe working practices and proactive reporting of hazards or defects. Understanding of Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, and Environmental standards. Dexterity and attention to detail when handling components and operating machinery. Ability to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and carry out quality checks to ensure products meet required specifications. Capable of maintaining accurate production records and ensuring full traceability of parts and materials. Demonstrates a methodical and organised approach to tasks, maintaining a clean and efficient workspace in line with 5S principles. Flexible and adaptable to changing production priorities and different areas of operation. Commitment to quality, accuracy, and efficiency in all aspects of work.Desirable/Advantageous: Experience in a manufacturing or production environment, ideally within metalwork, fabrication, or assembly operations. Skilled in shot blasting, surface preparation, bonding, masking/demasking, weld preparation, etching, and engraving. Competent in the safe operation of hand tools, presses, profiling machines, FLTs, and overhead cranes. Experience performing TPM activities, including cleaning, inspection, lubrication, and minor maintenance tasks. Valid Forklift Truck (FLT) and/or Overhead Crane license desirable. Training in manual handling, hazard awareness, 5S, or TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) principles advantageous.Disposition (Required critical behaviours): Safety-Conscious: Demonstrates strong safety awareness and consistently follows company HSE standards and procedures.
