A well-established, privately owned national plant hire business is seeking an experienced Sales Director to lead and develop its commercial function across a multi-site UK depot network. This is a senior leadership role responsible for revenue growth, pricing discipline, team performance, and strategic customer development across the organisation.

Reporting to the Managing Director, you will take ownership of national sales performance and lead a team of Area Sales Managers, field representatives, and depot-based staff to deliver consistent growth and margin improvement. You will play a visible leadership role across the business, spending time in depots and with customers while helping embed a structured, high-performing sales culture.

You will be developing and implementing the national sales strategy, delivering revenue, utilisation and margin targets across the depot network. You will lead and coach Area Sales Managers and regional sales teams while supporting depot managers in proactive customer engagement. You will build strong relationships with key national and regional accounts, maintain pricing discipline and commercial governance, and improve pipeline visibility, forecasting accuracy and conversion rates. You will also support major tenders, framework agreements and contract negotiations.

This role requires a proven background in the plant hire sector.

To succeed in this role, it is essential that you have the following background, skills and experience:

  • Senior sales leadership experience within plant hire
  • Experience managing multi-site or national sales teams
  • Track record of delivering sustainable revenue growth
  • Strong understanding of utilisation-driven and depot-based sales environments
  • Experience with contracts, key accounts, and negotiated agreements
  • Willingness to travel nationally

Ideally You Will Also Have:

  • Experience operating within a national hire business
  • CRM and structured sales process implementation
  • Tendering and framework agreement exposure
