Thrive Oldham are delighted to be working with our client in the Hyde area who are actively looking to recruit Environmental Maintenance Grounds Operatives. Candidates must have a full valid driving licence.

To work as part of a multi-skilled Operational Team responsible for carrying out a range of tasks and operations that maintain and improve the quality of the local environment. To show initiative and commitment to ensure that services are provided effectively and in a joined-up way.

Main Duties:
  • Football pitch maintenance, renovation and inspections
  • Litter picking, primarily within horticultural/shrubbery areas, with expectations to carry out such duties on adjacent/surrounding areas, where necessary
  • Emptying litter bins, primarily within horticultural/shrubbery areas, with expectations to carry out such duties on adjacent/surrounding areas, where necessary
  • Grass cutting
  • Graffiti removal
  • Hedge trimming including cutting back obstructive vegetation
  • Strimming
  • Animal husbandry
  • Inspection, repair, cleansing of play areas and other similar facilities
  • Removal and erection of goal posts
  • Maintain bowling greens and carry out associated tasks
  • Planting of shrubs and floral displays
  • Chemical spraying and weed spraying
  • Assist in staging various events
  • Use of powered mechanical equipment, e.g. ride on mowers, hand mowers, blowers
  • Use of small hand tools in a range of tasks

The Duties may vary from time to time without changing the nature of the post or the level of responsibility, and the post holder may also be required to carry out any other duties appropriate to the grading of the post.

Your essential Skills, Knowledge and experience:
  • Able to quickly learn new tasks and to follow instruction
  • Able to use small hand tools and equipment safely, efficiently and skilfully
  • Able to show initiative to tackle new tasks, quickly, effectively and with a high standard of workmanship
  • Able to work with others co-operatively and effectively to deliver high quality work
  • Able to work under pressure and to high standards in terms of time and work quality
  • Able to work outdoors and in all weather conditions with appropriate protective clothing/equipment providing it is safe to carry out such duties
  • To maintain competency and knowledge for the work of the post by undergoing training and development, e.g. on the job or external training courses
  • To ensure that all work is undertaken in accordance with established safety procedures and to report defects or safety concerns identified to senior managers or supervisors
  • To carry all work with the highest of standards of behaviour and conduct, reflecting the importance of the role as an ambassador for the Borough and the Council
  • To ensure that all resources used, e.g. equipment, machinery and vehicles are kept safe and in good order and are not exposed to the risk of loss, damage or theft
  • To ensure that essential records relating to the work of the post, e.g. vehicle log sheets, daily work sheets, PUWER worksheets are completed promptly and accurately
  • Experience of environmental maintenance tasks relevant to the work of the post
