The Terrace is the only Isle of Wight restaurant listed in the Michelin, AA, Square Meal, Good Food and Harden’s guides. Our kitchen is spotlessly clean and very well organised and our team are all solid cooks with positive attitudes.

We currently have an opening for a chef with enough experience of managing themselves and overseeing others to share sous chef duties. The role doesn't cover people management, but it does cover having ultimate responsibility for the kitchen 1-3 days a week depending on season. Our team are experienced chefs who tend to take care of their own ordering, stock, and section management. As the season picks up we need a chef with more seniority on certain days who can maintain standards, solve problems, and take ownership of quality, standards, organisation and communication with our GM.

Responsibilities
  • Share sous chef duties with ultimate responsibility for the kitchen 1-3 days per week, depending on season.
  • Maintain standards, problem-solve, and take ownership of quality, organisation and communication with the GM on senior days.
  • Operate without rota management responsibilities; contribute to cooking, assist with dish development, run the pass or ensure it is run well, assist with HCCP and SFBB.
  • Assist with ordering, stock handling, and section management as the season requires.
Qualifications
  • Experience supervising a kitchen on the Head Chef's day off or owning a section with proactive ordering, cleanliness, stock management, and contribution to dish creation and standards.
  • Strong communication skills and presence; able to lead when necessary but not for the sake of it. Looking for a partner in leadership of the kitchen.
  • Ability to cook at a level approaching 2 rosettes; comfortable leading the team a few days a week at a high standard.
  • We may consider Head Chefs seeking a more cooking-focused role free from formal management or Exec Chefs who want to remain hands-off but run the pass, train others, complete paperwork and create dishes.
Details
  • Location: Yarmouth overlooking the Harbour. You'll need your own transport or live locally.
  • Hours: up to 50 hours per week over four or five days, depending on preference; open 4.5 days in the off season and 7 days in the high season. No rota management and no hiring responsibilities.
  • Equipment: three combi ovens, blenders and mixers that work, two large vacuum machines, a big walk-in, brand-new plates and quality equipment. Where something is missing, it is purchased (except Pacojet).
