The Terrace is the only Isle of Wight restaurant featured in the Michelin, Good Food, AA, Square Meal and Harden's Guides. We're not fancy but we are good at making our guests happy with efficient, warm service and consistently good, unfussy food. We serve 200+ guests daily over summer overlooking the harbour in Yarmouth. To do this, we need to increase the size of our Front of House team from July to September.
A Front of House role with us has a three‑week training period where you'll get comfortable with service structure, table numbers, drinks offering, food offering and using tills/payment terminals. Once you're confident, you'll be given ownership of a set of tables, taking guests through their meal in a relaxed but attentive way designed to make them happy. Our team are all friends as much as colleagues and they all have one thing in common - they care about guest experience and making it the focus of their work. We can teach you the same way of working which will stand you in good stead in any career!
Things you'll do:
- Help set up the restaurant for service
- Greet and seat guests in a relaxed but structured way
- Take orders and run food
- Sell wines or other drinks and menu items based on guest preference
- Learn to read tables and adapt your service and conversation style to make their visit memorable
- Run food and clear tables in a timely manner
- Learn to make coffees to barista standards and cocktails to bartender standard
- Learn about wine and food
What we are looking for:
- A respectful attitude to work and colleagues shown through reliability & attitude
- A desire to learn and work hard to deliver high quality guest experience
- Being comfortable with the idea that learning often means failing - to get something right you're often going to get it wrong first!
- Confidence with guests and an awareness of what to expect from a meal at a restaurant like The Terrace.
- The ability to reliably get to Yarmouth daily without incident
- No holidays of more than 1 week booked from July to August inclusive.
You don't need to have worked in hospitality before but of course it's useful if you have as you'll know what to expect from the role. We have two roles both to start from July. We pay good tips, release rotas two weeks in advance and provide a professional, learning‑focused option for summer work that will not only earn you money but genuinely benefit your career.
