The Telegraph's Social Media Editors work to maximise the potential of the stories we tell using social media, combining excellent social media and journalistic skills. In this role, you will be responsible for implementing our social media strategy across all platforms, maximising content to reach and engage potential subscribers. You will have the chance to work across a variety of content in a fast-paced newsroom, alongside some of the country's best journalists in their field. This is an exciting challenge to make a real impact in growing audiences and increasing engagement.

Please note: This role is based in our newsroom and may work across a seven-day rota.

Key Responsibilities
  • Edit and maintain The Telegraph's social media feeds to a high standard.
  • Create written, graphic, and video content to be distributed on main and sub-brand social media channels that aligns with the Telegraph brand and content strategy.
  • Attend daily editorial conferences and planning meetings to develop and advise on ideas and content plans for upcoming articles.
  • Help promote the use of social media across the newsroom and work closely with journalists and publishers to advise on best practice, develop ideas, and implement strategies.
  • Provide insight on social trends and conversations to the desks to inform commissioning and suggest angles that will maximise social reach and subscriptions.
  • Cover live events and breaking news on social media.
  • Use data and analytics to analyse performance, inform content decisions.
Key Skills
  • Previous experience in a social media role with a good understanding of creative content production in a busy editorial environment, with a focus on news.
  • Strong understanding of social algorithms, capturing audiences' attention, and what generates engagement across platforms.
  • Experience in video production and editing for social media is desirable.
  • Ability to present ideas and work collaboratively with other social editors.
  • Confidence in working with other teams, proactively voicing ideas, and collaborating on internal projects.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and to tight deadlines whilst maintaining flawless accuracy.
  • Excellent and clear communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills, with experience producing content plans that capitalise on news events and audience trends.
