The Deputy Money Editor will support the Money Editor in shaping and running a highly successful personal finance team. The ideal candidate will have experience in national newsrooms and be an accomplished writer and editor. The Deputy Editor will be a senior and integral member of the Money desk, expected to drive our daily coverage and work with reporters and freelancers to ensure their stories are the best they can be.
We are looking for someone with a strong news sense and a solid understanding of personal finance and consumer topics. The ideal candidate will be full of ideas and energy, able to think of fresh ways to take on key topics of interest and hungry to set the agenda for money journalism. They will understand our readers' interests and concerns and be able to think of new ways of telling the stories they want to read.
The role reports to the Money Editor and plays a central role in overseeing a large team of reporters and writers responsible for The Telegraph's award-winning money coverage. It will include acting up when the Money Editor is away or busy, including running the desk, pitching at conference, attending senior editors' meetings and liaising with other senior staff, among other responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities- Drive original, informative and entertaining personal finance journalism
- Work with reporters to stimulate ideas and develop stories to optimum effect
- Develop campaigns and investigations that speak to the Telegraph's audience and set the news and political agenda
- Edit content for multiple channels including digital, print and newsletters
- Help manage the flow of large volumes of content to meet an array of deadlines
- Spot potential stories or digital projects from raw data, case studies or news
- Use audience analytics to inform and improve idea generation and presentation
- Play an integral role in what is a stable, happy and committed team
- An excellent writer and editor, as well as numerate
- Knowledgeable in all fields of personal finance
- News-aware and alive to the interests of our audience
- Full of original ideas and able to commission them clearly
- Highly organised, energetic and enthusiastic
- Collaborative and able to win the confidence of colleagues, both senior and junior
- Authoritative with a knack for getting the best out of reporters
