You will be a proactive problem-solver with excellent organisational and interpersonal skills, capable of managing fast-paced change while helping to maintain a high-performing, creative environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead on IR35 compliance and employment status assessments on behalf of the Tax team for off-payroll and editorial workers, including all contributors and retainers.
  • Oversee the planning and logistics of desk moves, for major news events, and for business continuity.
  • Manage business system upgrades, including the editorial payments system, ensuring approval workflows remain current and aligned with operational needs.
  • Oversee the approval of contributor payments, expenses, and freelance invoices, ensuring compliance with internal policies.
  • Work with Tech, HR, and Finance to approve all casual worker requests, ensuring compliance with budget, headcount plans and employment policies.
  • Maintain and regularly update the editorial policies log, ensuring accurate version control and effective distribution to relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist the Deputy Managing Editor in preparing content plans, shared regularly with the commercial sales team (e.g. Telegraph Magazine, Luxury Magazines, Weekend Sections).
  • Support the Executive Managing Editor by chasing editorial approvals for commercial projects such as Editorial Integrated Partnerships.

Other Responsibilities

  • Support the management of editorial budgets in collaboration with Finance, Procurement, and senior editors. Assist with monitoring departmental spend and generating regular performance reports.
  • Champion a positive, inclusive newsroom culture by fostering strong internal relationships and supporting engagement initiatives.

Key Skills

  • Proven experience in editorial operations, newsroom support, or a similar administrative/managerial role.
  • Strong financial literacy, with experience managing budgets, payments, and working closely with finance teams.
  • Excellent organisational skills with meticulous attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across editorial, technical, and support teams.
  • Comfortable managing multiple deadlines, priorities, and stakeholders in a fast-paced environment
  • Diplomatic and resilient, with the ability to remain calm under pressure and deal sensitively with confidential or urgent matters.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in a newsroom or media environment.
  • Familiarity with editorial payment systems or other contributor payment tools.
  • Knowledge of employment and tax regulations relating to freelancers and contingent workers (e.g. IR35).
  • Experience supporting change programmes or project rollouts.
