In this role you will craft compelling information graphics for print and digital in Telegraph’s Graphics team, turning complex topics into clear visual stories. You’ll shape how data-driven journalism is presented across publishing platforms and collaborate with editors, reporters, and designers to push innovative formats. You’ll lead best-practice discussions and advance information design standards, contributing to high-impact stories from breaking news to longform features. Responsibilities

  • Create engaging information graphics for print and digital platforms
  • Visually communicate complex subject matter clearly and concisely
  • Develop new approaches for presenting stories on publishing platforms
  • Work on breaking news, lead stories, investigations and longform features
  • Interpret, edit and visualise data into engaging pieces of graphic journalism
  • Report to the Director of Graphic Journalism, managing daily workflow and establishing long-term information design standards
  • Collaborate with Editors, Reporters, Data Journalists, Producers, Designers, Developers, Animators, Illustrators, Video producers
  • Research topics surrounding stories to enhance graphic quality
  • Initiate information graphics by pitching ideas to editorial desks
  • Lead the conversation on information graphics, informing colleagues on best practices and solutions
  • Share technical developments to progress the team’s capabilities

Key requirements

  • Advanced practice of graphic design fundamentals (typography, colour, composition)
  • In-depth knowledge of editorial design and visual storytelling within publishing
  • Strong understanding of graphic production for print and digital
  • Cartography and geospatial analysis (QGIS, MapShaper)
  • Proficient in technical illustration (Adobe Illustrator; 3D programs a bonus)
  • Competent in data visualization tools (Raw, DataWrapper)
  • Frontend code capabilities (HTML/CSS/JS)
  • User-focused and interface design expertise (Figma)
  • Data analysis and editing to identify trends (Excel, Sheets; R or Python bonus)
  • Solid mathematics for precise plotting and problem solving
  • Strong organizational skills and time management (Email, Trello)
  • Passion for data visualization and visual storytelling
