The Youth Forensic Psychiatric Services team is an established group committed to providing essential mental health services to young people involved in the justice system. This team works closely with probation services, community agencies and contracted service providers, as well as Youth Custody Services staff to deliver Court-ordered assessments and treatments. Join us in making a significant impact by supporting youth who are navigating complex legal and mental health challenges.
In this role, you will provide independent biopsychosocial assessments for young people involved in the justice system. You will work with multidisciplinary clinicians providing specialized counselling and therapy, assist in supervising practicum students, and collaborate on research projects. Your work will play a crucial role in shaping effective assessment and treatment services, ultimately supporting the mental health and rehabilitation of young people in the justice system.
Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements
- Masters in Counselling, Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Counselling, Clinical Psychology or Child and Youth Care or comparable graduate degree at the Master’s level in a similar subject may be considered.
- Successful MSW prepared candidates are required to seek and obtain clinical registration with the British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW), within 6 months of having completed the required 3000 hours of supervised clinical practice.
- If your degree was obtained outside of Canada, you need to confirm it has been assessed for equivalency through the International Credential Evaluation Services (ICES). You must provide a basic report by the closing date of this posting to be considered.
- Minimum of one year full-time equivalent experience working with children and youth and their families, with responsibility for providing a wide range of community based mental health services.
- Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
Preference may be given to applicants with the following:
- Two years or more relevant clinical experience working within an adolescent mental health environment and providing a wide range of outpatient-oriented assessment and treatment services.
- Recent experience working in a forensic setting or with a forensic population.
- Experience working in a psychiatric or mental health unit.
- Applicants who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit with the required combination of education and experience.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Criminal Record Review Act Check (CRRA) will be required. Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.
