The Talent Set are delighted to be partnering with Mayhew, a much-loved animal welfare charity, to recruit a new Business Development Manager role, joining their Income, Audiences & Partnerships department as the charity embarks on an ambitious new strategy.
Mayhew is a long-established animal welfare charity dedicated to improving the lives of dogs, cats and people in their communities. As part of its new strategy, the charity is investing in its Income, Audiences & Partnerships department to diversify income, strengthen relationships and develop innovative, sustainable ways to support its mission.
As Business Development Manager, you'll have the opportunity to develop and grow Mayhew's commercial and earned-income activities. Building on established services such as TheraPaws, you'll identify new opportunities, develop commercially viable ideas and turn them into sustainable income streams.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who combines commercial thinking, creativity and strong relationship-building skills. You'll have the autonomy to develop opportunities from concept to delivery, test new approaches and build partnerships that generate both income and meaningful impact.
With clear initial income targets and significant potential for longer-term growth, you'll be joining a collaborative team where your ideas, initiative and results can make a real difference. This role could suit an experienced relationship fundraiser looking to move into business development, or someone with a background in product development, innovation or commercial partnerships who wants to apply their skills to a meaningful cause. Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys spotting opportunities, building relationships and turning ideas into sustainable income.
As Business Development Manager, you will:
- Identify, develop and convert mission-aligned earned-income and commercial opportunities, assessing their viability and potential to generate sustainable income.
- Lead the business development pipeline, with a particular focus on growing TheraPaws, developing paid services and converting prospects into commercially viable propositions and income.
- Explore, test and develop new products and income streams, which could include paid training, education, workshops, affiliate partnerships and licensing opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with Income, Audiences & Partnerships colleagues and teams across Mayhew to identify shared opportunities, draw on expertise and maximise commercial potential and support for Mayhew.
- Build and manage relationships with commercial partners, developing mutually beneficial arrangements, negotiating opportunities and identifying ways to grow their involvement over time.
- Monitor performance, evaluate opportunities and contribute to sustainable, long-term income growth.
You will bring:
- A proven track record of developing income, with experience in corporate fundraising, relationship-focused fundraising, product development, business development and/or innovation.
- Experience developing a pipeline of opportunities, identifying new prospects and assessing commercial potential to convert ideas into tangible results.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels, negotiate effectively and develop compelling proposals and pitches.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and progress initiatives independently from concept to delivery.
- A collaborative, proactive and creative approach, with the confidence to explore and test new ideas and a commercially minded, entrepreneurial outlook.
- A genuine interest in Mayhew's mission and the potential for commercial activity to deliver positive social impact.
